Er studierte als Stipendiat der Studienstiftung Philosophie und Germanistik in Freiburg, Basel und Wien. Bis 2011 forschte und lehrte er am Centre for Security and Society sowie am Husserl-Archiv der Universität Freiburg. In seiner Dissertation „Werterfahrung und Wahrheit“ entwickelte er eine phänomenologische Ethik im Anschluss an Edmund Husserl. Zeitgleich gründete er eine Sommerschule bei Rom und lernte dabei zufällig Frank Obergfell kennen. Gemeinsam begeisterten sie sich für die Idee, mit der Thales-Akademie eine gemeinnützige, weltanschaulich unabhängige Initiative aufzubauen, um philosophisch interessierten Menschen aus Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Zivilgesellschaft neue Räume des offenen Denkens und wertschätzenden Dialogs zu bieten. Es ist ihm eine tiefe Freude zu erleben, auf welch wachsende Resonanz die Thales-Akademie seitdem stößt.
