Unsere Gesellschaft liebt es kompliziert und teuer, wenn es um die Lösung von Problemen geht. Dabei bedarf es in der Regel nur ganz einfacher Grundbedingungen, um komplexe Prozesse wie Kreativität zu unterstützen. Der ärztliche Direktor der Psychiatrischen Universitätsklinik Ulm und Gehirnforscher Manfred Spitzer hält in diesem Gespräch ein Plädoyer für Naturerlebnis und Räume für’s Selber-Machen. Spitzer zeigt anhand von Studien auf, dass sich Stress und Kreativität umgekehrt proportional zueinander verhalten, also je höher der Stress, desto geringer die Kreativität. Lebendiges Grün in Form von Pflanzen allein, sei es nun der Blick ins Grüne oder der Anblick von Zimmerpflanzen, vermindert bei Menschen den Stress deutlich und erhöht nicht nur die Fähigkeit zur Kreativität, sondern fördert beispielsweise auch den Heilungsprozess bei Menschen.

Er studierte Medizin, Psychologie und Philosophie in Freiburg, war Oberarzt an der Psychiatrischen Universitätsklinik in Heidelberg, Gastprofessor an der Harvard-Universität und am Institute for Cognitive and Decision Sciences in Oregon. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt im Grenzbereich der kognitiven Neurowissenschaft, der Lernforschung und Psychiatrie. Seit 1997 ist er Ordinarius für Psychiatrie in Ulm. Spitzer ist Herausgeber des psychiatrischen Anteils der Zeitschrift »Nervenheilkunde« und leitet das von ihm gegründete »Transferzentrum für Neurowissenschaften und Lernen« in Ulm. Er hat mehrere neurowissenschaftliche Bestseller verfasst und moderiert eine wöchentliche Fernsehserie zum Thema Geist und Gehirn.
